Advice for Bloggers – Rule #5: Be patient, but active.

This week, we’re welcoming back blogger Marilyn Tycer. Marilyn is a graphic designer and blogger, and we’ve asked her to share some of her tips for bloggers. (Click for Rule #1, Rule #2, Rule #3 and Rule#4).

Advice for Bloggers: Rule #5

Be patient, but be active.

Runners do something called “active recovery”—after a long or especially hard workout, they might take a day or two off. But they don’t just sit on the couch and watch TV. They go for a nice easy walk, or splash around the pool with the kids. They work hard, take breaks, but keep their muscles going during the breaks. As a blogger, think of the time between posts as “active recovery.”

  • Wait and watch. It takes awhile to get your blog on the radar. It took me months before I started seeing more than a handful of visitors to my site (and you better believe I have a screenshot of the graph showing the first day I had over 300 visitors). But be attentive to opportunities and ideas at all times.
  • Find ways to promote your blog the smart way—ask established bloggers to write a guest post, use Search Engine Optimization, etc. Avoid spamming in any way, shape or form.
